The American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) is a non-profit music organization composed of over 18,000 choral musicians representing schools, colleges and universities, industry and institutional organizations, houses of worship, and community and professional choirs. Its central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. In addition, ACDA strives through arts advocacy to elevate choral music’s position in American society.

ACDA is divided into seven geographic regions as well as into state chapters, each with its own conferences, newsletters, and other programming. Residents of Indiana who join ACDA also become members of the Indiana chapter, the Indiana Choral Directors Association (ICDA). All Indiana members receive copies of Choral Journal (the ACDA national magazine), Resound (Central Division newsletter) and Notations (Indiana’s newsletter).

One of ICDA’s primary functions is to promote high quality singing in the schools of the state, including through the Indiana All-State Honor Choir. This 250-voice SATB ensemble will perform at the state music conference in Fort Wayne January 18-19, 2013 under the direction of Dr. Jefferson Johnson of the University of Kentucky.

The 2012 Central Division conference is planned for March 7-10, 2012 in Fort Wayne, Indiana – go to www.acdacentral.org for more information.

The 2012 ICDA state summer conference with headliner clinicians Keith Hampton, Artistic Director/Founder of the Chicago Community Chorus, and Russell Robinson of the University of Florida will be held July 11-13 at the University of Indianapolis. State President-Elect Dan Andersen will be planning another great conference for any ACDA member. Planned as a part of this conference will be rehearsals and performance by the 2012 Indiana All-State Vocal Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Millikin University’s Steve Widenhofer, now a part of ICDA’s programming.
